  • Providing an Agenda for the lab portion of the IWEA Annual Conference
  • Host seminars geared towards laboratory and operator personnel
  • Provide a hand-written test and design a hands-on event for the Wastewater Challenge
  • Execute and present the Laboratory Excellence award

You can view the Laboratory Committee Charter, full Committee Description, and Upcoming Events at the bottom of this page.

Laboratory Quality Assurance Manual

This manual is being distributed as a guidance document for wastewater laboratory personnel.  It contains quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) information, detailed methods for the basic parameters that are reportable with a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Permit (NPDES), and an appendix of other relevant information.  The manual is a tool that lab personnel can utilize to generate quality data.

Laboratory Excellence Award

The IWEA Laboratory Excellence Award recognizes those laboratories that demonstrate a high level of commitment to good laboratory practice and accurate data reporting. All municipal and industrial wastewater treatment laboratories are eligible for the award. The IWEA Laboratory Committee presents the award during the annual IWEA Conference to those laboratories scoring above the established minimum levels. To become eligible, you must complete and submit this form by February 22nd. The program requires an on-site visit by members of the Laboratory Committee. The visit will last approximately 2-4 hours and is pre-scheduled to fit your working hours during the months of March through May. During the visit, our inspectors will examine your laboratory records and equipment. An inspection form developed by the Laboratory Committee is used to rate your laboratory conformance to established good laboratory practices. The Laboratory Committee encourages your participation in this very worthwhile program and looks forward to visiting your laboratory. For questions about this Award please contact the Laboratory Excellence Award Organizer or the Laboratory Chair person.

  • To receive the Laboratory Excellence Award each analyte must receive a score of 70% or higher, each section 85% or higher, and an overall score of 90% or higher.
  • Application deadline is February 22nd.
