The microorganisms are responsible for removing most of the organic pollutants from the wastewater therefore it is important to understand the conditions that allow them to do their best work and to do our best to create those conditions. The objective of this class is to teach the operators\, lab personnel and consultants how using the microscope and knowledge of wastewater microbiology can be an additional tool to help optimize and troubleshoot wastewater treatment plant processes. \nWho should attend:  Treatment plant operators\, Environmental &Consulting Engineers and Laboratory Personnel \n  \nTopics to be covered: \nPart 1 – Wastewater Microbiology & Process Control \nThe participants will learn the role of bacteria\, protozoa and metazoa in the treatment process along with the conditions that allow them the do their best work of removing nutrients from the wastewater. The participant will also learn how to anticipate potential treatment system upsets and to troubleshoot and correct existing treatment system problems. Participates will learn simple tools\, and simple procedures for routinely monitoring wastewater treatment processes. Includes materials and standard operating procedures. \nPart 2 – Identification and Control of Filamentous Bacteria \nThe participants will learn a simplified method to identify filamentous bacteria\, determine the conditions that favor their growth and methods to control and eliminate bulking and foaming caused by these microorganisms. \nPart 3 – Microbiological Monitoring Biological Nutrient Removal Systems \nParticipants will gain an understanding the role and requirements for biological phosphorus and ammonia removal processes as well as methods to monitor the system microbiology. \nThis workshop is approved for 6 Technical Wastewater credits per day\, and 12 General Drinking Water credits. \n  \nInstructor:  Toni Glymph-Martin\, Environmental Microbiologist at Wastewater Microbiology Solutions LLC\nToni Glymph-Martin has considerable knowledge of the principles\, practices and procedures of environmental science as it relates to water quality monitoring and regulations; water and wastewater treatment; and environmental research. She has spent 27 years of her career working in public utilities and have worked 15 years as an environmental regulator.  Her experience provides her with a unique perspective and a thorough understanding of the issues and challenges of both the regulated community and regulating agencies. SUMMARY:Enter into Evansville’s Eager Endeavors!
DESCRIPTION:Facilities Tour from the Young Professionals Committee\nCome one\, come all! See the progress EWSU has made on completing our new 40 MGD wastewater effluent pump station on the East side of our trademark horseshoe river bend aptly named Sunrise Pump Station. After the pump station we will head a few blocks due East to EWSU’s East WWTP. Feast your eyes on the new Biological Aerated Filter process from Veolia\, the second in Indiana and under EWSU. Other improvements include a state-of-the-art Trojan UV system\, a solids handling conditioning tank\, a new grit removal process\, and a fancy enhanced biological nutrient removal pilot! (This is a construction site so please prepare with hardhat and high-vis\, if you do not we will provide for you). Lastly\, we would be glad to exhibit our historical late-1800s era water filtration plant\, just up the hill from our WWTP. This will provide an opportunity to see our existing facility and the design for the new water plant that is slated to begin construction in 2027! The event will make 3.5 PDHs and 2 CEU contact hours available to all attendees.  \n  \nWho should attend: This event is open to all industry professionals. Come join us! \n  \nRegistration is now closed. To join the waitlist\, please email Jess at jessica@indianawea.org.  \n
