DESCRIPTION:WHEN:  October 25-26\, 2023\nTIME: 8am-3pm\nWHERE:  TriCo \, 7236 South Mayflower Park Dr\, Zionsville IN 46077 \nPurpose/Overview: \nThe wastewater treatment process is a biological process. The microorganisms are responsible for removing most of the organic pollutants from the wastewater therefore it is important to understand the conditions that allow them to do their best work and to do our best to create those conditions. The objective of this class is to teach the operators\, lab personnel and consultants how using the microscope and knowledge of wastewater microbiology can be an additional tool to help optimize and troubleshoot wastewater treatment plant processes. \nWho should attend:  Treatment plant operators\, Environmental &Consulting Engineers and Laboratory Personnel \n  \nTopics to be covered: \nPart 1 – Wastewater Microbiology & Process Control \nThe participants will learn the role of bacteria\, protozoa and metazoa in the treatment process along with the conditions that allow them the do their best work of removing nutrients from the wastewater. The participant will also learn how to anticipate potential treatment system upsets and to troubleshoot and correct existing treatment system problems. Participates will learn simple tools\, and simple procedures for routinely monitoring wastewater treatment processes. Includes materials and standard operating procedures. \nPart 2 – Identification and Control of Filamentous Bacteria \nThe participants will learn a simplified method to identify filamentous bacteria\, determine the conditions that favor their growth and methods to control and eliminate bulking and foaming caused by these microorganisms. \nPart 3 – Microbiological Monitoring Biological Nutrient Removal Systems  \nParticipants will gain an understanding the role and requirements for biological phosphorus and ammonia removal processes as well as methods to monitor the system microbiology. \nThis workshop is approved for 6 Technical Wastewater credits per day\, and 12 General Drinking Water credits. \n  \nInstructor:  Toni Glymph-Martin\, Environmental Microbiologist at Wastewater Microbiology Solutions LLC\nToni Glymph-Martin has considerable knowledge of the principles\, practices and procedures of environmental science as it relates to water quality monitoring and regulations; water and wastewater treatment; and environmental research. She has spent 27 years of her career working in public utilities and have worked 15 years as an environmental regulator.  Her experience provides her with a unique perspective and a thorough understanding of the issues and challenges of both the regulated community and regulating agencies. This course is a valuable tool for anyone in the wastewater field or anyone considering the wastewater field. \nThose attending the exam prep course will have access to the annual conference exhibit hall\, networking receptions and Friday technical presentations in addition to the exam prep session. \nAbout the Instructor: \nBill Boetcker has spent 30 + years in the wastewater industry\, during that time he has held various positions in municipal wastewater\, industrial wastewater\, contract operations\, and managed an environmental laboratory. \nBill has been a member of IWEA for 25 years and an active member of the Pretreatment Committee for 15 years\, which he served 5 years as Vice–Chairman and 2 years as Chairman. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Indiana Industrial Operators Association. \nBill has been involved in the development and teaching of the Registered Pretreatment Coordinator and Certified Pretreatment Coordinator courses.  He studied at Tri State University and Trine University graduating in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and he holds certifications as Class D and IV Wastewater Operator and Class DSL and WT3 Water Operator. \nHe is employed by Aqua Indiana\, most recently serving as their Laboratory Supervisor\, previously held positions in Environmental Compliance and operations for the last 15 years. \nRegister here – select “Wastewater Exam Prep” as the registration type.
