Collection Systems

The Collection Systems Committee (CSC) supports IWEA’s mission to provide education and training opportunities to our members and to our community of water resources and environmental professionals. From facilitating the collection systems construction observation course, to volunteering at the annual Wastewater Operators Challenge, planning the annual Collection Systems & Stormwater Specialty Conference, and many other activities in between, the CSC provides many opportunities to give back to the industry. We hope you are inspired to join and participate!

What does the Collection Systems Committee do?
The CSC’s purpose is to be IWEA’s resource on collection systems design, construction, rehabilitation, operation, and maintenance expertise, ranging from education to regulation to new methods, materials, and best practices. The CSC does this by supporting a variety of programs, events, and trainings throughout the year, including:

  • Construction Observation Course
This three-day course provides a basic overview of inspection and observation requirements for sewer and water construction. The course is an excellent training opportunity for people involved in construction inspection or supervision, whether employed by a municipality, engineering firm, utility, or construction firm.

CSC Volunteer Opportunities: Event planning, speaker coordination, exam registration, exam proctoring, exam grading.

  • Collection Systems Certification Exam
This series of exams provides collection systems operators the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge base and attain professional certifications. Exams are available for Class I, II, III, and IV certifications.

CSC Volunteer Opportunities: Exam preparation course development, exam proctoring, exam grading.

  • Wastewater Challenge
This annual, day-long event provides a fun and engaging opportunity for wastewater operators to assemble into teams and put their skills to the test with a variety of unique challenges.

CSC Volunteer Opportunities: Event development, event judge, other event-day assistance.

  • IWEA Annual Conference: Collection Systems Track
Each year of the IWEA Annual Conference features a day-long collection systems themed track of presentations.

CSC Volunteer Opportunities: Abstracts reviews, session moderator, session monitor.

  • Collection Systems & Stormwater Specialty Conference
The CSC, in conjunction with the Stormwater Committee, assists IWEA in planning a one-day conference featuring presentations focused on collection systems and stormwater management.

CSC Volunteer Opportunities: Event planning, abstracts reviews, session moderator, session monitor.
