What are the course offerings? Leadership Development Institute curriculum is specifically designed for water and wastewater professionals looking to take their career to the next level. The courses are listed below.

  • Course One: Intro and Self-Evaluation
  • Course Two: Leadership Styles/Philosophy
  • Course Three: Developing Your Team
  • Course Four: Practical HR, a crash course
  • Course Five: Intentional Organizational Culture
  • Course Six: External Communications and PR
  • Course Seven: Internal Communications
  • Course Eight: Business and Finance
  • Course Nine: Reproducing Leaders Within and Succession Planning
  • Course Ten: Capstone

What’s the course fee? The total cost to participate is $1,800. This includes the $150 non-refundable application fee and the $1,650 tuition fee, once accepted.

What to Expect

  • LDI is an ongoing program consisting of 10 courses.
  • Students will meet over a 12-month period to dive deep into topics ranging from communications, human resources, and organizational leadership.
  • Each course has been handpicked and structured to best develop and inspire our future water industry leaders.
  • Classes for the 2025 cohort start on September 9th and are projected to continue on the 2nd Tuesday of every month. Locations will vary across central Indiana.
    • Classes are held from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
    • Session 1 will be at the IWEA Office (6510 Telecom Drive, Suite 200, Indianapolis, IN 46278).

Scholarships Available

We are pleased to announce that the Indiana Finance Authority (IFA) has agreed to sponsor qualified students to participate in this program. In order to receive this scholarship, you must be:

  • Wastewater, Drinking Water, or Stormwater utility personnel (e.g. no consultants)
  • Work at a utility that serves less than 10,000 people

To apply, indicate you will need financial assistance on your LDI application. The $150.00 application fee still applies. If you do not see this option, you may not qualify based on your answers to the questions on the application. Reach out to staff@indianawea.org with any questions.
